Stop Trying To Justify Staying Miserable

Recently I was leading a discussion at a book store in Chicago about some of the concepts and back story that led to the writing of my book, Ancient Pact. People sipping tea and nibbling on sweets were seated in the café area and more people sat or stood around the perimeter.

One of the concepts of the book is that “coincidences occur where life and destiny intersect.” For my purposes, karma and destiny are basically the same thing. I believe destiny is self-created and results from an individual’s thoughts, words and actions in this and previous lifetimes.

Coincidences serve as “wake up” alerts that the person or persons are at a critical intersection and the use of free will becomes even more important. In other words, make choices wisely and with deliberate consciousness. Life will present opportunities and “coincidences” and it’s up to the person to use free will to either continue on the path he or she is on or make different choices.

I was sharing these views with the standing-room-only gathering when a rather tattered-looking man noisily joined the group. His shoulders were hunched under a heavy brown jacket that seemed to wear the dust of many ages. Despite the sadness in his eyes I could see a glimmer of hope in them..

Near the conclusion of my presentation he raised his hand and asked something like, “But what if you can’t get over all of the bad things that have happened? What if the past is so horrible there is no recovery?”

Clearly this man had experienced something from which he believed he could not rise above. I shared one of the other concepts from Ancient Pact which is that reality is greater than perception. This means that as immortal beings we occupy a temporary body to experience the physical realm in ways we can’t experience it from the spiritual, nonphysical realm. For example, a woman may experience great pain when she mistakes her body for her true identity. She is not a body that HAS a soul. She IS a soul or Spirit-self who HAS a body.

This man had allowed his terrible past to "define" him and keep him in emotional, mental and spiritual jail. His past had become his present reality and clearly he had forgotten he is a spiritual being that exists beyond this physical experience.

He told the group that he had been through counseling and it didn’t work. He also said he was unwilling to forget the event and move forward.

I then pointed out that he could use his free will to get the help he needed. Pain and grief often cloud rational thoughts. Sometimes we all need a helping hand to get past life's challenges and see from a fresh perspective. At this point I pulled out samples of the Ancient Pact, Deck One: Spiritual Contemplation Cards that will be available in June. I had him draw a card. He pulled the one that said, “Stop Trying To Justify Staying Miserable.”
(See the card at the bottom of this newsletter.)

I felt chills as I witnessed the wonderful “coincidence” unfold.

He laughed and said, “These cards are brilliant. This is perfect.”

I said, “Not only is it ‘brilliant’ that you selected the perfect card, but you know that the message is true. How much longer do you want to live in the shadows of your past?”

His eyes were bright and his smile genuine as he shook the card at me and said, “I’m going to have to think about this. Can I keep the card?”

Of course I let him keep the card and I wished him prosperous and joyful use of his free will. My sincere wish is that the man in the dusty brown jacket view this "coincidence" as an intersection for healing. He can choose to continue on his current pain-filled path or he can choose another path toward healing. May the hope I saw in his eyes blossum into reality.

Other people drew equally compelling cards for their lives. A few even gasped and said something like, "This is exactly what I've been struggling with." Some people might call these random selections of cards “coincidences.” I call them intersections of life and destiny. When a person is ready for growth the cogs in the universe align to make it happen.

Have you been noticing unusual coincidences or synchronicities? Do you have some very important decisions to make?

May each of us always do that which is for the highest good of All or for the greatest number of beings. May we learn from our mistakes and apologize where that is what is the right thing to do. May all beings be blissfully blessed.

Skeptics and Why We Need Them

Skeptics pose learning opportunities.

Sometimes their challenges sting but when I step away from my emotional reaction I learn more about myself and my perceptions than if I had not been challenged. Until a skeptic forces me to examine WHY I believe something, I realize I sometimes base my perceptions and beliefs on feelings/intuition rather than data or both.

Recently during a presentation a skeptic challenged me rather harshly. I was telling a story about “coincidences occur where life and destiny (karma) intersect.” During the editing phase of my book, my computer would lock-up but only when I was trying to change all references of bees to deer. Based on my new computer’s behavior, and the fact that I had changed many other words without incident, I did further research and found that bees should indeed remain part of the story. I was thrilled with this outcome and convinced that this “coincidence” was an intersection of my physical reality with my karma. (see the story at: http://www.caryncolgan.com/bee.htm

The skeptic argued that he was a skilled computer programmer and that computers and their programs freeze. He began a long, detailed explanation of why and how it happens. Further he stated that my story did not involve some mystical intersection.

Since I had never been challenged before by someone who claimed such authority, I was momentarily taken aback. I took a few deep breaths to center myself and realized I was asking my audience to accept my interpretation on faith.

So I called upon my logical brain and asked a series of questions like:

What are the odds that the function “Find: bee, Replace with: deer” would be the only ones to lock up my computer?

What are the odds that this would happen repeatedly and only with those words and in that order?

Is it possible that the outcome of learning that bees should remain in the story was no accident?

Is it possible that reality is greater than our ability to explain it with logic and empirical data?

What would it mean if this was NOT a “coincidence”?

I was delighted after this exchange because his probing required me to more carefully examine my beliefs AND be able to explain why I believe as I do. So now, when I am faced with a skeptic I remind myself that she or he has a plays a important role: that person helps me clarify my beliefs and my ability to communicate WHY I believe as I do.

Bliss and Blessings to ALL

The Secret, The Law of Attraction and Spirituality

According to the Law of Attraction, what you focus on is what you create. For example, if you decide to write a book and see it as a successful venture, you will eventually make it happen. The more attention you give the project, the more you will attract the people and circumstances to make your dream come true.

I believe this and I know it works... when I use it! Since 1992 I have used the law successfully... when I remember it and use it. However, what I have found is that when my life is moving along at a magical pace, my dreams are manifesting freely and easily, I get lazy and lapse into unhealthy patterns. Well, that WAS my pattern.

I'm so grateful for the movie and the reminder to keep my focus on the positive goals I have for myself and my work. Ancient Pact, Volume 1 is the culmination of many hours of intention and work. When it won 2006 Best Book Award for New Age fiction in November 2006 I was happy but failed to consciously make the connection that I have intended for Ancient Pact to win many awards and help many people.

One of the things I like most is that the teachers of The Secret remind people to use the power consciously and to remember to be of service to others. When some of them appeared on Oprah in February, that is one of the key messages they all conveyed. There is more than enough resources for EVERYONE. That is such a fundamental concept of spirituality.

People who lack resources and live in fear are easy to dominate and control.

Once humanity grasps that each of us creates our reality, anyone who leads with fear and domination will lose their power. Fear will no longer be a weapon. Heaven and Hell as separate places where eternal judgment is passed are constructs of fear. God as a separate being who creates and destroys is a way to keep believers ignorant of their Spirit nature.

People who fear for the condition of their eternal soul are easy to dominate and control.

While I don't know if the creators of The Secret believe the same things about God, Ancient Pact's first lesson is All is One. We aren't bodies who have a soul. We are Spiritual Beings - Souls- who have bodies for a while. I believe everything that exists is an expression of a shared energy that is this physical Universe.

I see it as an ocean of energy that is sometimes visible, sometime invisible. Sometimes creatures rise out of the ocean like a whale breaching. The whale experiences a short time in a different reality then returns to the ocean. A wave may form, roll against the beach, cease to be a wave and then return to the ocean. Everything in the Universe arises and eventually returns to the ocean of energy. Everything is a part of the Consciousness.

There is no separate God, Goddess or Creator. Everything and everyone is Creator, All, Universe. Many of us have just forgotten what we are.

So often after tragedies people say, “Thank God we weren’t killed.” That is only half of the equation. Who created the tragedy? Who created the rescue? It must be the same creator. How often do you hear those same people say, “Thank God for the car accident.”? Salvation and consciousness happens when the connection is made. Assign responsibility and gratitude to the same creator.

It is time to WAKE UP.

A Wild Fusion of DaVinci Code, Celestine Prophesy and Conversations with God

Today, people around the world may be meeting "strangers" who seem like long lost friends. They may also be experiencing recurring dreams that urge them to wake up and remember their true spiritual nature.

This blog is for my kindred sisters and brothers who would like to share their thoughts and ideas about the concepts explored in the book Ancient Pact. One day I hope to assemble these kindred spirits to make a formal promise to raise our individual and collective consciousness. Come join us!
